I would have assumed that Eric's own staff would provide these materials since the activities are funded by OGAC. Melanie would be the person to ask about this as she keeps track of these initiatives....but very informally because multiple ICs are actually in charge of their bits and pieces. On the revised visit schedule, wouldn't it make more sense for Francis to have his one-on-one before the press event rather than after? G

He does have time with Bill prior to the media roundtable, and then again prior to the leadership roundtable --_| will be updating the agenda to reflect There have been a few instances where the background OGAC staff have provided is outdated, so I'm just trouble shooting in case we have information we could provide

Hi Melanie, I hope things are well Dr Collins will ask Eric Goosby to say a few words about the implementation science partnership, during the roundtable discussion with Bill Gates on Oct 7 I'm staffing Dr Collins for this May I ask, is there any information on progress, from our end, that we might pass to Eric that may help him prepare? Thanks for any assistance you might be Best

Wow - there has been a lot going on, so I'll give you some general info and will attach a list of the current RO1/U01s which we are working on in collaboration. Let me know if you need something else. e NIH began doing limited evaluations for PEPFAR in 2005. e In 2010 we did a collaborative admin supp program where NIH grantees were funded (by OGAC, $10m, and OAR, $3m) to address implantation science topics of particular importance to PEPFAR programming. Six ICs participated: NIAID, NICHD, NIDA, NIMH, NIAAA, NCI, and FIC and 35 -- 1yr supplements were awarded (out of 141 applications -- our investigators really see the importance of this). 18 countries were represented in the research. e Based on the success of this, in FY11 we issued a FOA for 3 year grants addressing PEPFAR related Implementation Science, again funded by OGAC and OAR. 15 grants were awarded in the first half of FY12, through 4 different ICs. They are named in the attached list. e At nearly the same time, NICHD issued a PA for an NIH/PEPFAR collaboration on PMTCT projects. They have begun to set up a research network for those working on these projects, and others in the field. I am double checking on the number awarded. e In addition to these, the large collaborative project which is funded by NIH, OGAC, BMGF and WB, is called PopART, HPTNO71, which is a combination prevention intervention study involving 21 communities (12 in Zambia, 9 in Western Cape, South Africa). The intervention, taking place in PEPFAR-funded clinics in the intervention communities, is scheduled to begin by September 30. Enrollment in the population cohort (which will be used to measure the HIV incidence outcome)will begin next month. DAVID BURNS in NIAID PSP is the Program Officer for this and can give you more details. BMGF works with this as well. Please let me know what other info you would like. Thanks, Melanie
