July 13, 2020 - Global USA Yesterday Florida had >15,000 infections - most for any state since the beginning Met with Mark Meadows. He denies knowing anything about the WH drive to discredit me. This is tough to believe in that multiple nerws outlets (networks and Cables0 have been given a list of my "mistakes and errors" directly from the White House. No way that he did nt knw abut it. Nonethelerss, he said he will make sure that it stops. Too late, they already did the character assassination. Major, Major show of support for me for multiple and varied sectors. Most peole expressing outrage that the trump administration woud be so bumbling and incompetent to try to discredit the most credible scientist in the world. Gave Fireside Chat Podcast for Stanford Univerity MC'd by Lloyd Minor, dean of Stanfod Medical School. Met virtually with Mark Lerner and officials from Washinfgton Nationals to discuss potential obstacles to their opening at Nats Stadium on July 23. I will throw out the first pitch. July 14, 2020 - Global - 12,800,000/568,000; USA - 3,400,000/136,000 Outbreaks still raging in Florida - records being broken. >60,000 cases yesterday Deep state is going more crazy than ever in attacking me as the academic community is mobilizing to defend me. Real crazy. See below: {> Alan He @ *" GRAHAM defends Dr. Fauci: "We don't have a Dr. Fauci problem. We need to be focusing on doing things that get us to where we need to go. So I have all the respect in the world for Dr. Fauci. I think any effort to undermine him is not going to be productive, quite frankly." > ever said was I did a fireside chat online at Georgetown hosted by John Monahan. It was taken up my multiple press including C-SPAN, which then fed into CNN and other networks. It was a good venue for my getting the message out. Phone call with Alyssa Farah. She apologized profusely about the "screw up" with her junior staff who put out the list of how I got things wrong. She admits that it only hurts the POTUS to disrespect me and question my credibility. I told her that the White House (either Meadows or the POTUS) need to shut up Stephen Moore and stop his publication of "Dr. Wrong" paper. If he does not the entire academic community will dump all over the POTUS. Peter Navarro wrote OpEd in USA Tosday saying everything that I have ever said was incorrect. I went on a Goergetown Fireside chat (see above) and in ashort sentene I said that the current outbreak was "comparable to 1918". I did not mean in numbers, but for a sensitive person, it could mean that I wa predicting 50 million deaths. Well, tonight Francis Collins called me up saying that he just got off the phone with Mark Meadows who was screaming at him about what I said. Mark wanted this "walked back". Clerly Markis vey sensitive about playing down the pandemic because of the ucoming election and anything that indictes that this is a big problem drives him nuts. I got on the phone with Mark (he was still very angry), but I calmed him down and said that I would clarify this on my next TV appearance. He then indicated that he really liked me very much and respected me and values ou relationship. I apologized for what happened and he accepted the apology. Just an example of the tension that the pandemic in the context of the upcoming election is causing. PRESS: Trevor Noah https://bit.ly/2CyI0tH ; CNN - see above at Georgetown again strongly pitted me against the POTUS regarding a particular statement when I was Global USA is://bit.ly/2ZA YJAEy asked about "who can we trust". I said "medical and public health experts who speak based on science and data and who tell the truth". I said "trust me". CNN took that as strongly implying "do not trust Trump"

July 15, 2020 - Global USA Continue record-breaking numbers of cases with increased hospitalizations and now even deaths. The press are all over the issue of the White House trying to discredit me. Alyssa Farah put out tweet saying that the USA Tody OpEd by Peter Navarro was never cleared or approved. Adm. Michael Mullen, former Chairman Joint Chiefs called me to empathize and give me encouragement and support. Very nice of him since I had never met him. Very nice conversation The Lincoln Project put out a vewry provocative Fauci versus Trump link: Lincoln Project ad https://bit.ly/2AYJAEy Dan Scavino retweated this cartoon mocking me. This caused outrage among my supporters: Letter from Congressman Krishnamoorth to AZAR regarding attackes on me: New Yorker Magazine on 2020.07.15 Letter from Krishnamoorth Amazing Day!! The setting is the extreme tension in the press and in the White House about the USA Today OpEd by Peter Navarro and the "list" of my mistakes sent out by WH Comms. On my way by car to the WH for the TF meeting, I received a call from the POTUS. He started off by saying that this tension of me versus him is terrible and needs to stop. He "loves" me and know we have a very special relationship and have bonded right from the beginning. He is furious about the Navarro OpEd and said (as Mark Meadows walked into the room and he put me on speaker phone): "I am going to tell Navarro if he says or writes one fucking word against you I am going to kick his fucking ass out the fucking door. Mark, make sure Novarro understands, one more word and he is out the fucking door and he won't come back". He then started to talk to me about how bad or not things were. He wanted me to be "positive". I took the opportunity to say" "Mr. President, with your permission, can I be absolutely frank with you? We have a problem and we need to own it. We need to admit that the situation is serious, otherwise we completely lose credibility. We should own the problem and then emphasize how we are going to fix it as opposed to denying the problem". He was not entirely happy with this but said that he understood the point that I was making. It was a very good conversation. Then after the TF meeting ended, I got a note from the Sit Room staff that Mark Meadows was on the phone from Air Force One and wanted to speak with me. He had seen the interview from The Atlantic and was angry that I had not "walked back" my statement about the 1918 pandemic on that interview. He was again angry and said he thought that I agreed that I would walk back the statement today. I told him I was going to wait until tomorrow when I am on the NewsHour with Judy Woodruff. That was not good enough for him. He wanted it done today. He was also pissed that I had mentioned to the press that we had met and I spoke about the nature of our conversation. He was clearly over-reacting since even he admitted the press knew about our meeting, but I do not think I said anything else to them except that we had met. Anyway, on the way back to NIH I called Sanjay Gupta and asked him to quote me tonight on his TV hit on CNN and say that I wanted to clarify that on the Georgetown interview, I did not mean to imply that COVID-19 would be as bad (50-100 million deaths) as was 1918. Sanjay agreed to do this. I texted this information back to Mark on Air Force One and he replied: "Thanks for getting back with me. We are going to make this work." The media is totally buzzing about the tension between me and White House. Amazing support for me and blowing off of Navarro and the "list" PRESS: The Atlantic Pulse with Ed Yong; Interview with New Yorker Magazine on COVID vaccine with Dhruv Khullar; ases yesterday. July 16, 2020 - Global USA Cases continue to surge. >67,000 cases yesterday. Hospitalizations and deaths going up. Problem emerging here. Mark Meadows is starting to be a problem. He wanted me to "walk back" the statement comparing COVID-19 to 1918. I was planning to do it on a schedule appearance on NewsHour today (Thursday). However, Mark called me yesterday and was upset that I did not do it already. He could not wait 1 day. I said OK and called Sanjay Gupta and asked him to quote me on his show and also write it on his blog that I wanted to clarify. I thought that he did a good job. Then this AM I get another angry call from Meadows saying the clarification was not strong enough (??really). Then on the phone he went on that I need to back off with media since this cannot be a "Tony Fauci show". He did not like the fact that I did an "In Style" piece and did not want any more profiles of me. If that was not enough, he hung up and then 120 minutes later called and said he read something where I was reported to say that the incubation period was greater than 14 days and wanted me to retract this. I do not remember ever saying that and so he sent me an article where Chuck Todd mentioned that I said that. I pushed back and got angry myself saying that I never said that and so I do not know what he wants me to do. I will try to track down that statement. I also will see if I can state again the 1918 clarification on my Face Book live chat with Mark Zuckerberg this evening. Trouble brewing here. For the first time, I am seriously considering resigning from the Task Force. I cannot tolerate people following my every word. You know he has staff looking up things about what I have said in the past. Teleconference with Matt Pottinger and Bob O'Brien to discuss opening the travel between USA and Europe. Right now there are exceptions for travel for business, but not for tourism. PRESS: Did terrific FaceBook Live with Mark Zuckerberg - 1.8 million viewers;

July 17, 2020 - Global - 13,400,000/580,000; USA - 3,600,000/138,000 Records being broken daily. Yesterday 74,000 new cases. Hospitalizations and deaths increasing. Big issue - Despite all the walking back stuff regarding the 1918 comment, Mark meadows in an appearance on FOX News and reported by The Hill, Mark Meadows said that my comment was "irresponsible". This is really bad. He is losing control of himself with the screaming at Francis and me and the demanding walking back on trivial issues like my comment on 1918 and the "non-issue" about the incubation period being greater than 12 days (which I never said) and now this comment about "irresponsible", I am thinking about resigning from the Task Force. I called up Marc Short for advice. Mark was on Air Force Two with the VP coming back from Wisconsin and could not 40,000/139,000. respond but called when he landed at Andrews. He said that he too is having trouble dealing with Meadows who is says can be very difficult. Mark told me to hang in there and not do anything drastic just in response to Meadows. Short was totally supportive and clearly indicated that Meadows was a problem for him also. Did Chamber of Commerce live podcast - came out very well. Did Medscape Podcast with Eric Topol and Abraham Verghese Did WebMD with John Whyte Concresswoman Maxime Waters called wanting me to directly address millennials. Good conversation. Crazy Michael Caputo says he now has total control of approvals for HHS people for TV, but wants a "murder Board" before each appearance since "if we screw up, his job is in trouble". Total bullshit since the 1st "Murder Board" for Francis (CNN) and me (NewsHour) was a joke with his staff who know nothing trying to question Francis and me. Slso, Caputo calls me and says that he is takng over the decision about who goes on TV and not the White House. He wants an organized program of equal distribution among the HHS docs. He sounds delusional. He is declaring independence from the WH. Syas that they will decide Sunday Show, but nothing else. July 18, 2020 - Global - 13,800,000/594,000; USA - 3,640,000/139,000. Cases continue to surge. News cycle dominated by reports of conflict between me and the Trump insiders (see below) Petitions from multiple scientific organizations going around to sign on in support of me. Comm situation becomes even crazier. Despite Caputo saying that he is now "calling the shots and not the White House (see above), Alyssa Farah called me and said that Jake Tapper wants me this week and she will put me on for Tuesday. I explained to her what Caputo said and she told me not to pay attention to him since he is a big problem. She even said that it would be better if he stopped tweeting about Roger Stine and concentrated on his job, things would work better. Anyway, I am caught in the middle. Let us see how this turns out. July 19, 2020 (Sunday) - Continuing surge Francis Collins on Meet the Press - did well. They continually ask him if WH has told him to fire me. Francis responded that this is "unimaginable". Many societies are writing statements in explicit support of me. It isvery moving and humbling. Kellyanne Conway called me today saying how angry she was at the unseemly criticism of me by some in the White House. She has spoken to the POTUS about this and he is strongly supportive of me Mark Mradows and I going back and forth regarding his nitpicking every word of mine on interviews. Latest was his concern that I said that NYC did a good job in getting back to basline and opening safely. He says NYC did a terrible job and I should not be setting them as an example. He is incorrect and misunderstood what I was saying. I meant that they went down to baseline and are not opening safely. WEgo back anad forth and finally call a truce.
