Jan 1, 2020 Mar 11 Apr 30 Jun 19 Aug 8 Sep 27 Nov 16 Jan5 Feb14,2021 ( Times TV; NPR -- "Science Friday" with Cases continue to come down globally: Media trying to show discrepancies in the Biden team response. CDC and Walensky under criticism for their recent guidelines for opening schools since they are really quite confusing. They say open the schools but the guidelines show that 85-90% of the country is in the "red" zone and therefore, should hold off on opening. I believe that this is typical CDC confusion and lack of clear crisp guidelines no matter who is CDC Director. Also, the are pitting (a little) what I am saying against what VP Harris is saying. VP saying that we have to "start from scratch" in the vaccine roll out and I have been saying that some things were done well such as the mechanism for shipping vaccines. I reconcile this by saying that the mechanisms for getting doses into people's arms were in bad shape when the Biden team came in. The press are accepting this. Jan. 2, 2020 -- Met in my office with Dr. Olivier Tshiani who was and is a main player in our PALM trial in DRC. Also present were Cliff lane, Rick Davey and Lori Dodd. Olivier was right there on site when the Mai Mai burned the ETUs at Katwa and Butembo and his car was stoned as he was travelling at night from the ETU to his compound where he was living in Butembo. He related stories of the very difficult security issues while doing the PALM study. He is areal hero. He had also previously spent 5 years in Nancy Sullivan's lab. Here at VRC. Did TV interview with Cox TV this year's influenza situation. Interviewed by Samantha Manning

Jan. 3, 2020 -- Influenza is heavy in the media. Did an interview with Elizabeth Cohen of CNN for her Blog. Also, did a live radio interview with John Catsimatidis for his "Cats Roundtable" from NYC. Also, yesterday the US via a precise drone strike in Iraq outside of Baghdad airport killed the leader of the Iranian Quds Force General Quassim Souleimani. There has been over the past few days attacks on the US Embassy by Iranian backed Iraqi militia as a result of the fact that the US armed forces attacked and killed 25 Iranian backed Iraqi inilitia who had killed a USA contractor and wounded several USA soldiers in Iraq. This will certainly lead to major escalation of tension and even retaliation from Iran. Also 44 unusual cases of pneumonia in Wuhan, China opver the past couple of days. Etiology still unknown. Said to be a "viral pneumonia' of unknown etiology. Flu ruled out. Cases linked to a seafood market. No human-to-human transmission documented at this time. 1, China. Day on the influenza season e match is OK for HIN1, u as well as interview with > references to our lam Radio Breakfast Show about anti-vaxx movement. n Reilly of Axios

Jan. 4, 2020 - 20,680 cases and 27 deaths. No sign of diminishing. We are hearing the obvious conflicting opinions of the benefit or harm of travel restrictions. A lot of interest in the revealing that the NEJM paper claiming in one Chinese to German transmission that it was symptomatic transmission, when it probably was not. I quoted that paper (now flawed) in the WH presser. One death in Hong Kong (total of 2 with Phillippines for non-China deaths) 20,680/426 - 2% mortality Continuing to evacuate USC from Wuhan. 4 individuals from Hubei Province under quarantine (2 LAX, 1 ORD, 1 NY) Chinese officials criticizing USA for travel restrictions. WHO also adding muted criticism. Got urgent e-mail from Lindsey Baden from NEJM to review in 2 hours a pape from Germany showing that an asymptomatic person can harbor replication competent virus in nasal passages. State of the Union address tonight and vote on conviction after impeachment tomorrow - weird! Jan. 7, 2020 - Just because of the sudden preduction of 1-3 inches of snow, OPM shut down the USG at 1:00 PM and everyone rushed to get off campus at the same time that Walter Reed personnel are trying to leave. This has created a total nightmare traffic jam on campus. It is taking almost 1 hour to get off campus from time you get in your car. Did TV interview with Canadian TV (CTV) on the viral outbreak in Wuhan, China. Did interview (print) with HealthDay on the influenza season
