A good collaborator that I have, who is
Aravinda de Silva, who came from Sri Lanka, has connections
there. And I've been funded with Aravinda and Eva Harris
for a variety of dengue research and Zika research. So
serum samples, we've gotten serum samples from both Sri
Lanka and from the Philippines and from Nicaragua to do
studies on flavivirus evolution, and identifying major

neutralizing epitopes for the development of therapeutic
antibodies in vaccines. But I have never been to Sri Lanka
or the Philippines. I have been to Nicaragua for a meeting
with a P01 that I had, and currently have with Eva Harris,
that studies dengue virus pathogenesis. It studied dengue
virus pathogenesis in children in Nicaragua for the past
20-some years. It's the longest-running natural infection
cohort on dengue virus, which has identified a large number
of important features associated with what drives
pathogenesis, and has informed the vaccine development.
Currently we're funded with Aravinda to develop next12
generation protein-designed vaccines against dengue.
