@Andrew Rambaut / @Eddie Holmes have you guys thought about VOC/VOI type of stuff in extension to your pango lineages? Separate, of course, but kinda in the same spirit. We need to come up with something better for outbreak.info and we're struggling a little - and certainly don't want to duplicate efforts. We have thought about setting up a voting system and have a large 'board of advisors', but would be better to hook into other systems already in place. IMO, the way PHE does it is the way to go and I think we'll just defer to PHE for VOC classifications. However, wehave politics to deal with and the CDC has a different set of VOCs - which I don't agree with. We can of course also have a way in which people can use whatever list they prefer, but it gets messy - would be much better to have asingle system (which is why pango is so important - because we're moving towards exactly that across the entire "variant" space).
