I just have one question- is Colin Wood really his real name?

That's essentially what I expected from Clare - she's always very careful, particularly by email (I've had to chat with her about a few sensitive matters). I agree with Andrew that there is a black mark against the reviewer and that weshould just write back and say thanks and just felt you had to know in case it escalates.

The Betoota Advocate is a spoof paper, like The Onion. So, it's all made up....except that the new outbreak in Australia did indeed started by security guards rooting returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

It's beautiful - just have to read it in a thick Aussie accent.

When I saw the photo in the article (on my phone...) I thought it was a picture of Eddie... I mean, forgive me, but the guy is ~bald~ bold and holding a beer... :man-shrugging:

For Clare, let's go with the majority opinion here - I think we should push her some more, but I see the benefits of not doing that... @Eddie Holmes do you want to reply back to her?

Yes, I'll reply. Let's keep calm for now - we can raise the stakes later if necessary.

Colin Wood is a spoof of 'Collingwood' - one of the most famous Aussie rules teams (the great Ian Barr supports them)

I gave my 1st talk in Australia in the late '80s. It was some heavy phylogenetics stuff. Not knowing, in that talk I said something like "I have major issues with rooting". Pete Lockhart then got his mate to ask me a question which was something like "We'd like to hear more about your rooting problems".

Can I use this in my book?

    Proper attribution of course...

Unless you are saving it for your memoirs Eddie!

If ever we get that FOIA for our Slack channel...

Please do Bob. I can still remember the sniggering at the back of the lecture hall as I tried to explain the difficulties infinding the optimal rooting position.

Bob, if you do have any significant section in your book about Eddie, make sure you talk to Pete Lockhart. There are many many more stories.
