Dear Francis, I am chairing the committee to review nominees for the 2022 John J. Carty Award for the Advancement of Science that will be presented at the National Academy of Sciences meeting next spring. The committee easily identify Dr. Fauci as an exceptional candidate for this award. I am writing ask if you would be willing and able to nominate him for this Award. The 2022 John J. Carty Award recognizes noteworthy and distinguished accomplishments in infectious diseases. The award is presented with a medal and a $25,000 prize. Additional information, including past recipients, eligibility requirements, and more, can be found at http://bit.ly/NASCartyAward. All nominations must be submitted online. Unless otherwise stated, the following materials must be submitted: 1. A letter from the nominator describing the candidate's work and why he or she should be selected for the award. No more than three (3) pages. 2. Curriculum vitae. No more than two (2) pages (similar to CVs included with NSF proposals but other 2 page formats are acceptable). 3. Bibliography listing no more than twelve (12) of the nominee's most significant publications. 4. Suggested citation. A 50-word summary stating why the nominee should be considered for this award. Hi Hugh How are you? I hope you are doing well in these extraordinary times. Steve has asked that I help with the nomination of Dr. Fauci for the Carty award. The timeline is tight and the most immediate concern is the need for two reference letters from outside NIH (highlight below). I am happy to solicit the letters - have referees been identified? I will also draft a letter and citation to send through the usual channels for review and I'll reach out to Greg for the abbreviated CV and top 12 publications unless you advise an alternative course.
