# Transcript

**[2021-01-23T13:20:37] Edward C. Holmes:** @Robert Garry The sequence of the Cambodian bat virus is now on GISAID. Not sure if you have it. Also, do you/we plan to write-up these Virological posts into a paper? Things are moving quickly though.

**[2021-01-23T13:39:31] Andrew Rambaut:** More seriously - what would be the optimal FCS?

**[2021-01-23T13:41:08] Andrew Rambaut:** And of course optimal cleavage may not have peak fitness benefit to the virus - you can presumably cleave too well and alter some other trade off in the dynamics.

**[2021-01-23T14:28:36] Andrew Rambaut:** Genomes - England per day. Red = B.1.1.7, Blue = B.1.177, Grey = the rest [shared file(s): image.png]

**[2021-01-23T14:36:56] Edward C. Holmes:** Just going through my emails for the GIPA crap. Some are poignant. [shared file(s): Screen Shot 2021-01-24 at 9.27.27 am.png]

**[2021-01-23T14:37:41] Edward C. Holmes:** Note the date

**[2021-01-23T14:40:43] Andrew Rambaut:** Will these be made public?

**[2021-01-23T14:46:28] Edward C. Holmes:** No plans to. They don't directly relate to the paper.

**[2021-01-23T14:51:55] Robert F. Garry:** @Andrew Rambaut Agree with this - optimal cleavage might vary depending on multiple factors - cleave in the wrong tissue or wrong time not good. - An optimal cleavage site is RRXRR. Not all X's equal so RRRRR among the best.

**[2021-01-23T14:52:01] Edward C. Holmes:** But I can of course use them if necessary.

**[2021-01-23T14:53:21] Andrew Rambaut:** True - would be interesting if some of that got out (doesn't look good for CCDC)

**[2021-01-23T14:54:18] Edward C. Holmes:** Oh no.

**[2021-01-23T14:57:12] Robert F. Garry:** Wow.

**[2021-01-23T14:58:25] Robert F. Garry:** "Also, do you/we plan to write-up these Virological posts into a paper?" yes - needed! on it.

**[2021-01-23T15:05:30] Kristian G. Andersen:** Whoa Eddie - that's pretty scary language in that email.

**[2021-01-23T15:28:24] Edward C. Holmes:** Yes, very bad. You know, all the bad stuff that came out of this, all the attacks that are ongoing, are due to George Gao. No doubt.

**[2021-01-23T15:28:56] Edward C. Holmes:** Thanks for working on the paper Bob!
