# Transcript

**[2020-10-27T09:25:38] Robert F. Garry:** Well - I don't think she should be shocked at all. [shared file(s): image.png]

**[2020-10-27T09:26:14] Kristian G. Andersen:** One additional proof that she's an idiot.

**[2020-10-27T09:26:36] Kristian G. Andersen:** I wonder if they mentioned the Broad Institute... I'm sure Lander would be happy about that.

**[2020-10-27T09:42:57] Robert F. Garry:** She keeps perpetuating the crap that nobody can assemble the genomes from the raw seq data.

**[2020-10-27T09:43:43] Robert F. Garry:** Just guessing, but I think Eric would not be happy.

**[2020-10-27T09:53:10] Kristian G. Andersen:** *She* may not be able to assemble the genomes because she has no idea what she's doing - however, other people (myself included) can. Easily. I even made the bam files publicly available for anybody to download.

**[2020-10-27T10:03:08] Andrew Rambaut:** It sounds like the Broad needs to do an intervention. Just discuss what she is trying to achieve from this.

**[2020-10-27T10:06:06] Andrew Rambaut:** Perhaps they could actually go through the data with her and give her the opportunity to try to persuade a few ofthem that know what they are doing. She won't be able to but perhaps they could bring her back from the brink, save her career (assuming they want to).

**[2020-10-27T10:08:21] Kristian G. Andersen:** She's so deep in now that there's no coming back - if I was the Broad I'd make a clean cut.

**[2020-10-27T10:21:27] Andrew Rambaut:** It really doesn't make any sense what she thinks she will get out of this - I assume this is entirely a genuine belief that she has discovered a truth and soon she will be celebrated for it. It is not like she is just giving the right wingerswhat they want either.

**[2020-10-27T10:24:23] Kristian G. Andersen:** I think she strongly believes that she has uncovered something that the scientific world hasn't managed to do - fueled by a ton of crackpot followers on Twitter. The main problem, of course, is that she does not understand evolution or genomics - experience is pretty key here.... It's just really dumb - but after she started accusing scientists of covering this up, she no longer has my sympathy.

**[2020-10-27T10:36:19] Robert F. Garry:** Beyond the accusations that the bat and pangolin sequences are fraudulent is the whole FCS is a  BSand that no one has ever seen a FCS generated that way before.

**[2020-10-27T10:37:13] Kristian G. Andersen:** You can't fix stupid. :man-shrugging:
