# Transcript

**[2020-10-16T13:34:57] Edward C. Holmes:** Wowser. Can I be 'fish boy'? Loved that text Bob...I can't help but think they have a point about Lipkin:thinking_face:

**[2020-10-16T13:36:19] Edward C. Holmes:** I'll also take 'Racoon dog man'.

**[2020-10-16T13:44:10] Kristian G. Andersen:** "Fish Boy" is nice - I'll ask them. Maybe they'll counter with "Fishy Boy"... They DO have a point about Lipkin - I hate being put in the same boat as him. WHO SUGGESTED ADDING THAT TURD AS AN AUTHOR??? WHO, HUH?!

**[2020-10-16T13:47:05] Edward C. Holmes:** Actually, true to fashion, Lipkin suggested himself as an author. I was merely the foolish turd facilitator.

**[2020-10-16T13:48:06] Edward C. Holmes:** Think of it as a cunning way to draw some of the fire away from you.

**[2020-10-16T13:48:16] Kristian G. Andersen:** We all agreed to include him, so we can only hate you a little bit. I'll still demand a Corona beer the next time I see you though.

**[2020-10-16T13:48:42] Kristian G. Andersen:** > Think of it as a cunning way to draw some of the fire away from you. Smart - I'll remember to call it the Lipkin virus next time.

**[2020-10-16T13:50:19] Edward C. Holmes:** If Lipkin had discovered SARS-CoV-2 he would have patented it!

**[2020-10-16T13:50:49] Kristian G. Andersen:** Maybe he did...

**[2020-10-16T13:51:59] Edward C. Holmes:** If you're Batman Lipkin is Lex Luthor.....Lex Useless even

**[2020-10-16T14:40:32] Edward C. Holmes:** I just got this:

**[2020-10-16T14:40:34] Edward C. Holmes:** Dear Edwards, It would be appreciated if you would help me with the following questions on viral evolution. I want to work on predicting the next viral crisis, but I don't have a clear picture of my idea on this. Here is the idea: One of the main steps in zoonotic transfer is the ability of an animal virus to enter human respiratory cells. So wecan list all surface proteins of human epithelial cells (in the respiratory tract) and then using molecular docking wepredict (viral) complementary proteins. Viruses with these proteins can potentially enter human cells. By translatingthese proteins into nucleotides, we have a list of potentially dangerous viruses; some of them are not yet evolved.…

**[2020-10-16T14:40:58] Edward C. Holmes:** I have a few for 3. :man-facepalming:

**[2020-10-16T14:43:43] Kristian G. Andersen:** I think this bit "I don't have a clear picture of my idea on this" in particular rings true.

**[2020-10-16T14:44:16] Andrew Rambaut:** Pass it on to Lipkin, Edwards

**[2020-10-16T14:45:01] Kristian G. Andersen:** #mean

**[2020-10-16T15:10:30] Edward C. Holmes:** I will indeed pass it onto Lex. He can patent the workflow.
