# Transcript

**[2020-07-31T14:50:27] Robert F. Garry:** I just have one question- is Colin Wood really his real name?

**[2020-07-31T14:58:39] Edward C. Holmes:** That's essentially what I expected from Clare - she's always very careful, particularly by email (I've had to chat with her about a few sensitive matters). I agree with Andrew that there is a black mark against the reviewer and that weshould just write back and say thanks and just felt you had to know in case it escalates.

**[2020-07-31T15:01:33] Edward C. Holmes:** The Betoota Advocate is a spoof paper, like The Onion. So, it's all made up....except that the new outbreak in Australia did indeed started by security guards rooting returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

**[2020-07-31T15:16:59] Andrew Rambaut:** It's beautiful - just have to read it in a thick Aussie accent.

**[2020-07-31T15:21:24] Kristian G. Andersen:** When I saw the photo in the article (on my phone...) I thought it was a picture of Eddie... I mean, forgive me, but the guy is ~bald~ bold and holding a beer... :man-shrugging:

**[2020-07-31T15:22:15] Kristian G. Andersen:** For Clare, let's go with the majority opinion here - I think we should push her some more, but I see the benefits of not doing that... @Eddie Holmes do you want to reply back to her?

**[2020-07-31T15:36:44] Edward C. Holmes:** Yes, I'll reply. Let's keep calm for now - we can raise the stakes later if necessary.

**[2020-07-31T15:37:49] Edward C. Holmes:** Colin Wood is a spoof of 'Collingwood' - one of the most famous Aussie rules teams (the great Ian Barr supports them)

**[2020-07-31T15:42:29] Edward C. Holmes:** I gave my 1st talk in Australia in the late '80s. It was some heavy phylogenetics stuff. Not knowing, in that talk I said something like "I have major issues with rooting". Pete Lockhart then got his mate to ask me a question which was something like "We'd like to hear more about your rooting problems".

**[2020-07-31T15:56:05] Robert F. Garry:** Can I use this in my book?

**[2020-07-31T15:56:35] Robert F. Garry:** Proper attribution of course...

**[2020-07-31T15:56:50] Robert F. Garry:** Unless you are saving it for your memoirs Eddie!

**[2020-07-31T16:00:59] Kristian G. Andersen:** If ever we get that FOIA for our Slack channel...

**[2020-07-31T16:09:19] Edward C. Holmes:** Please do Bob. I can still remember the sniggering at the back of the lecture hall as I tried to explain the difficulties infinding the optimal rooting position.

**[2020-07-31T16:15:15] Andrew Rambaut:** Bob, if you do have any significant section in your book about Eddie, make sure you talk to Pete Lockhart. There are many many more stories.

**[2020-07-31T16:16:08] Edward C. Holmes:** Pro tip.
